A carpet is an expensive investment. To make it last, you must take all necessary steps to make it looking fresh as possible. Carpet cleaning is one of the most important tasks that come with owning one. Because of their exposure to indoor pollution like dust, dirt and other particles, you have to make it a habit to clean them every once in a while. If you encounter stubborn stains and dirt in your floor mat, here are some of the home remedies you can use:
Heavy Staining
For heavy staining, you can use a mixture of vinegar and water to clean the hard-to-remove stain. Just rub the fibers gently with the solution and you will notice a lessening of the dirt. You can also use rubbing alcohol or baking powder solution for the carpet cleaning.
Fresh Spills
The earlier you clean up the spill, the easier your carpet cleaning will be. As much as possible, blot the spill with an absorbent paper towel the moment you see the spill. By allowing the fibers to absorb the liquid stain, cleaning becomes more difficult. However, be careful when blotting. Never rub it with your cloth. Otherwise, it will break down the fibers and cause the stain to spread even more.
Gums
Children are fond of chewing gums. After chewing, they throw it just anywhere and some of these find their way to your floor. For this problem, you can freeze it using ice cubes. Allow the cubes to get in contact with the gum. After a few minutes, you can chip the gum off using the blunt end of a knife.
Small Stain
For small stains, you can use a damp cloth to do your carpet cleaning. Just blot the area gently and continue until the stain disappears. If the wet cloth does not work, ask your carpet cleaning professional if they carry any spotters that they leave with you.
